The Packers preseason opener is in the books with the team picking up a victory Saturday afternoon.

With the 23-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Packers are 1-0 in the 2024 preseason.

As a lot may think, it was a very typical preseason game.

The offense, knocking off some rust from the off-season.

While the defense got accustom to the new 4-3 defense and new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.

Here are 5 things to takeaway from the preseason opener.

1. The starting offense is already in mid-season form

Jordan Love and the Packers offense picked right back up from where they left off in January.

It was a short day for Love and the first team offense.

3 plays is all it took for the Packers first team offense to score.

A 65 yard touchdown pass from Love to Dontayvion Wicks, put the Packers up 7-0.

That was all we saw from the first team offense, and rightly so.

The Packers offense looks in mid-season form already and it’s scary good.

This might be all we see from the first team offense until the season opener.

Head Coach Matt LeFleur said, most of the starting offense will sit next week in the match up against the Denver Broncos.

2.Defense holds Browns to 10 points

This was the first time we got to see the Packers defense in their new 3-4 scheme under Jeff Hafley.

Safe to say that it was a good showing from the defense as a whole.

The defense held the Browns to 244 yards total yards.

They also stopped Cleveland twice to turn the ball over on downs.

Furthermore Lukas Van Ness, Colby Wooden and Spencer Waege each had sacks.

Van Ness contributing with 3 total tackles for loss.

3. DuBose continues to impress

Last week I talked about Grant DuBose and what a great training camp he was having.

DuBose continued to shine in the preseason opener.

He lead the team with 5 catches for 66 yards.

DuBose also continues to show he could possibly be the Packers 5th WR.

Look for him to continue to get reps in the next 2 preseason games.

4 . Melton has off game

The WR competition is heating up, but Bo Melton might be cooling down.

Melton only had 1 reception in the preseason opener.

In addition Melton had 2 drops Saturday afternoon.

While DuBose continuing his performance, Melton is at risk of losing his spot on the depth chart.

He will need to have a bounce back game if he wants to retain his spot.

5. Williams has good showing in preseason opener

Evan Williams had a good showing against the Browns

The rookie safety had six tackles which included an impressive open-field tackle of Jerome Ford

Williams also produced the game’s only turnover to open the second half.

Williams along with fellow rookie Javon Bullard are battling for the safety spot along side Xavier McKinney.

Look for Williams to continue to get more reps as the preseason rolls on.
