The New York Jets have just acquired wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, solidifying the moniker of “Green Bay East,” given to the Jets by Packers head coach Matt LaFleur (I like “The New York Packers,” but, I digress). While we’re only in midseason at the moment, let’s have a little fun as fans and think ahead to a potential Super Bowl matchup.

Fans of the Green Bay Packers now get to once again watch Aaron Rodgers throw passes to Davante Adams. Some Packer fans may be sad at this notion, but there is a positive outlook. As these two aging players team back up we all get to watch it without any of the strings attached of that duo needing to find success in order for the Packers to win games. Daire Carragher put it best in his tweet from Tuesday morning.

Dream Scenario:

Obviously, whether or not the New York Jets have success is sort of irrelevant to Packers fans. If anything teams in the AFC being good is always good for the Packers as long as they’re not on the schedule (and the Jets are not).

So ideally the Jets will have success, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams will provide some good entertainment for anyone watching their games, and maybe the Jets will take down the remaining three NFC teams on their schedule (the Rams, Cardinals, and Seahawks). Although it would have been nice for the Jets to take down the Minnesota Vikings if they really wanted to do something that would help the Packers.

Obviously the Packers making a Super Bowl appearance is the best outcome for fans of the team, that doesn’t really need to be stated, but what better opponent than a team that is essentially the old Packers? We’re all sick of seeing the Chiefs in the Super Bowl to the point where pretty much any other option would be fine, but a Jets Packers Super Bowl would be electric. Aaron Rodgers facing off against his old protégé would make for as interesting of a matchup as you can find, and while losing the Super Bowl would hurt no matter what, there’s not a team in the AFC at this point that I would want to see win it all more than the Jets.

Does Davante Move The Needle in New York?

I’ll start by admitting that Davante Adams is my favorite player of all time. I watched him play at my hometown school of Fresno State, and then I watched him get drafted to my favorite team. He had a rough journey to becoming the number one option in Green Bay — some fans even wanted him cut in his second year — but he eventually became the most productive receiver that Aaron Rodgers ever played with.

With all that being said, I think whether or not the Jets are better now depends on a lot of factors. Does Garrett Wilson end up frustrated with his role on the offense? Does the Rodgers to Adams connection maintain the spark that it once had after several years apart? I think that their success still comes down to how willing the Jets entire offense is to buying in to what is ultimately an Aaron Rodgers-led Madden franchise. The tools are certainly there for the Jets to find success, and Davante Adams is still very much an elite talent.

Conclusion

So while the ultimate dream is for the Packers to win a Super Bowl, there is now the added benefit that maybe they’ll get to face off with some familiar faces in what could ultimately be the best Super Bowl in recent memory.

The Green Bay Packers play a very good Houston Texans team this week, and while fans are allowed to look ahead to a higher degree than the actual team they root for, lets settle back down in reality, and focus on that for now. As we all know, the only way to get to the Super Bowl is to earn a ticket to the dance that is the NFL playoffs, and that’s the current focus for a talented young Packers team.
