After practice on Thursday, Jaire Alexander informed Matt Schneidman of The Athletic that the injury that took him out against Chicago was a re-aggravated torn PCL. What that means for the Packers I don’t know, but I miss Rasul Douglas.

Jaire suffered this injury in Week 8’s matchup against the Jaguars, explaining his absence against the Lions. The bye week for Green Bay gave Alexander time to rehab and recover. But to quote Jaire, “If you know how PCLs work, it don’t just get done in three weeks.” It was allegedly a game-time decision for Jaire in Chicago, and he decided to give it a go. After only 10 snaps, Jaire felt like he couldn’t continue, saying he “felt something.”

What does this mean for the Packers? Well, despite knowing Jaire’s injury battle, no move was made for a cornerback by the front office. We’ll never know if calls were even made, and a lot of the trades this season would’ve resulted in crippling the cap space or overpaying with trade assets. That’s not the Green Bay way. Feel how you feel about that, but the result is still the same; Green Bay has a problem at the corner position.

A PCL injury recovery time can range from 2-6+ weeks, depending on the severity. Jaire doesn’t have a timetable for his return, but expects to return this season, meaning he’s hoping to not fall into the 6+ weeks range. With the following matchups of San Francisco, Miami, and Detroit coming up, Keisean Nixon and company have a lot of work waiting for them.

We don’t need to tweet things like this, Grant. Let’s not act like Jaire isn’t top 5 at his position when healthy. As for Rashan Gary and the rest of the pass rush disasterclass, that can be attributed to several things, most notably, the massive scheme change under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. I understand the frustration with adapting to a new scheme change but being rude towards playing for getting injured in the most violent team sport is something that has never made sense to me.

Whether we like it or not, Jaire is out for a bit, assumably til after Week 14’s matchup against Detroit. Will Gutekunst find another practice squad gem like he did with Rasul Douglas? Or maybe Carrington Valentine finally gets some more snaps, another mystery of this season. We’re not at a point to discuss draft prospects, as Green Bay is 7-3, but I’m sure that’ll be discussed to an unnecessary amount this spring.
