Jordan Love came into the 2024 season with a lot expectations after what he did at the end of the 2023 season.

A lot expected the second year jump for Love and solidifying the QB position for the Packers.

Some expected him to be an elite QB and build on his performance in 2023.

But the 2024 season was far from those expectations.

We’ll look back at Jordan Love 2024 season and what went right and what went wrong for Love.

The extension

We’ll start back in July when Love held out for part of the first week of training camp.

The holdout was due to Love wanting a contract extension with only a year left on his rookie deal.

The Packers proceeded to give Love a massive contract, a four-year, $220 million extension.

That put him in a tie for the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Love only played in one series in the preseason before the regular season started.

But the Packers coach had seen enough from Love and the first team offense and wanted to protect their franchise QB.

The injury

Love’s 2024 season got off the a interesting start against the Eagles in Brazil.

Love was 17 of 34 for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns that night.

But while trying to led the Packers to a game winning touchdown, Love injured his MCL.

The injury put Love season at risk, some thought his season might be over.

As it turned out, Love was only out for 2 games and Malik Willis filled in nicely for Love.

The Good

During the season, Love showed flashes of being an elite Quarterback.

Mainly Love was dependent on big plays and at times those big plays worked.

He was accurate at times and when needed came up big when it counted.

Love ended the season with 3,389 yards and 25 touchdowns.

He was able to really fire up during the month of November and December.

During that time span from the end of November to December, Love threw 9 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Love did this at times with different Wide Receivers, receivers that weren’t classified as number 1 receivers.

Not bad for his second year as the Packers starting QB.

But for a QB that signed a huge extension, these weren’t the numbers that were expected of a franchise QB.

The Bad

Early in the season Love struggled with turnovers and interceptions.

At one point he led the league in interceptions.

We saw Love throw balls that made us think, what were you thinking?

Perhaps it was Love trying to do too much.

But once December rolled around those seemed to go away, until the playoffs.

He ended the season with 11 interceptions.

Love fired up towards the end of the season, it was yet another slow start for Love.

It was the same story last year where Love struggled during the first part of the season and finished strong.

Some could say it was the multiple injuries Love had that affected him.

But for Love, this season wasn’t as good as last season.

While the win-loss record was better at 11-6, Love numbers weren’t the best.

His 3,389 passing yards put Love at 19th in the league, compared to last year when he had 4,159 yards.

Love’s 25 touchdowns was less than what his total was last year when he had 32 touchdowns.

Conclusion

It was an Up and Down season for Jordan Love.

In a way, it almost felt like a sophomore slump, where defenses figured out how to defend Love.

But Love was able to adjust and by the end of the season he was able to finish strong.

Love though needs to be protected because when healthy Love is dangerous.

He also needs a WR that can be his top target.

Perhaps that maybe a priority for the Packers once free agency and the official kickoff of the off-season starts.

The future still looks bright for Love but as with any franchise QB, he can’t do it alone.

The Packers need to get Love some help this off-season and hopefully give Jordan Love a chance to be the star QB he is.
