Former Green Bay legend, Sterling Sharpe, is headed to Canton. It was announced Saturday that the former Packers wide receiver has been selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Sterling Sharpe attended the University of South Carolina. He was drafted by the Packers 7th overall in the 1988 NFL Draft. Sharpe was selected for five Pro Bowls in his seven-year career. He even earned three first-team All-Pro selections during that time as well.

Sterling Sharpe’s brother, Shannon Sharpe, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. Shannon took it upon himself to inform his brother that he was soon to be part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Packers President Mark Murphy stated, “We are extremely happy for Sterling and his family and are forever grateful for all that he gave and accomplished with the Packers.” Sharpe never missed a regular season game in his career, playing in all 16 games every season up until his retirement. Sharpe’s stats as a rookie included 55 receptions for 791 yards (14.4 yards per reception) and one touchdown.

In just his second year Sharpe led the league in single season receptions with 90. He would then go on to lead this category again in 1992 with 108 receptions and again in 1993 with a whopping 112 receptions. His best season came in 1992 as he logged 108 (led NFL) receptions for 1,461 yards (led NFL) (13.5 yards per reception) and 13 touchdowns (led NFL). He also averaged 91.3 yards per game (led NFL)

For his entire career Sharpe registered 595 receptions for 8,134 yards (13.7 yards per reception) and 65 touchdowns. The 595 receptions were an NFL record for most by any player in their first seven seasons.

Despite an elite career cut short, Sterling Sharpe will finally get the recognition he deserves in August when he will officially be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is the 29th Green Bay Packer to be elected for the honor.
