Everybody, we are nearing the finish line! The NFL offseason is quickly coming to a close. I know we are still a few weeks away but those weeks will be over before you know it! Between now and July 29th, the first day of the Green Bay Packers training camp, there shouldn’t be a ton of Packers news or even NFL news. Right now is a perfect time to sit back and unwind and enjoy summer.
But, in case you are a super Packers nerd, here is some content for you leading up to the start of training camp. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be breaking down what to look for in Packers training camp. This week, the focus will be on the offensive side of the ball. Next week will be the defense, followed by the special teams.
Then after those primers are completed I’ll do my official 53-man roster prediction for the 2026 Green Bay Packers!
Got it? Good!
Let’s start with the offense!
Packers Quarterbacks

There isn’t a ton of intrigue or question marks with the top of the Packers depth chart in the most important position. Contrary to some people’s beliefs, Green Bay has their guy. Jordan Love will start the season as the Packers’ starting quarterback for the fourth year in a row. It’s crazy how time flies.
At backup, Green Bay signed veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Taylor is an experienced quarterback who has won in this league. At 36 years old, Taylor is a valued member of this quarterback room and can provide experienced insight from the sidelines. The best part is that if Love does have to get spelled for a bit, Taylor can win games.
The Packers very well could keep three quarterbacks on this roster, and there will be a battle for that 3rd spot. Kyle McCord was drafted by the Eagles in 2025 before being released and picked up by Green Bay. McCord has the attributes for a quarterback in the NFL but hasn’t been able to put it together in his young career.
Kyron Drones is a priority undrafted free agent by the Packers out of Virginia Tech. Drones has a cannon for an arm and is quite versatile. He is a dual-threat quarterback and some compare him to Malik Willis in skill set. Drones is a project but if he takes to this offense, the Packers might have gotten a steal in the undrafted free agent.
Running Backs

The Green Bay Packers running back room is one of some concern at the moment. Starting running back Josh Jacobs is dealing with his own legal issues that could affect his eligibilty for this upcoming season. And, even if his eligibility isn’t affected, he is still unlikely to be on this team in 2027 due to his age and cap structure.
So, who is behind Jacobs? Well, the Packers have Chris Brooks, who is overall a good runningback who really has made pass protection his bread and butter. Then, the Packers have MarShawn Lloyd.
Lloyd was drafted by the Packers in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. Daniel Jeremiah, during that draft, proclamed that Lloyd was his number one running back in that draft because of his elite athleticism. The young running backs’ abilities during past training camps were on full display. Some even said that he looked better than Jacobs during training camp.
However, Lloyd hasn’t been healthy. He has only played in one game, in which he received six rush attempts for 15 yards and a single catch for three yards before he got injured again. Lloyd has received help to figure out his injury issues and says he is ready to go. I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks.
Green Bay also has Pierre Strong Jr., Damien Martinez, and Jaden Nixon on the roster all battling for a spot on this roster or for a practice squad spot. The Packers could very well add to this room.
Packers Wide Receivers

Green Bay has ten total wide receivers on this roster. Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and Savion Williams are all guaranteed to make this roster. This leaves just one to two spots left for the other six to grab. Bo Melton and Skyy Moore are the next two most likely to make the team.
The Packers love Bo Melton, who has improved a ton over the years. His versatility is crazy. I mean, you can still find his position as being a cornerback instead of a wide receiver. Honestly, Melton’s injury prior to the wildcard game against the Bears had a huge impact on the outcome of that game. Bo Melton is one of the best special teams gunners in football. Him not being in that game hurt a lot. Skyy Moore was signed to be a Packers return man, but that was Mecole Hardman last year and he was still cut. So we will see.
Then there is J.Michael Sturdivant, Will Shepherd, Brenden Rice, and Isaiah Neyor. If one of these guys can stand out, they could possibly supplant either Bo Melton or Skyy Moore. Isaiah Neyor has been the offseason standout guy so far. The six foot-four, 218-pound, athletic freak (in a good way!) really stands out. And, according to Matt LaFleur, he is starting to put it all together. Could he possibly make this team?
Tight Ends

The Packers tight end room needs some help, or so it seems, anyway. Training camp can reveal a lot about players but as of right now, Green Bay seems to be lacking in the tight end department. Tucker Kraft is a great tight end with pro-bowl to all-pro capabilities. However, he is coming back from an ACL tear. That leaves just six other tight ends on this team to compete.
Luke Musgrave was actually drafted the round before Tucker Kraft in the same draft, but hasn’t lived up to that second round selection. And as of right now, he might have already been knocked down to the third tight end by Josh Whyle. After those guys, the Packers have Drake Dabney, Luke Lachey (who is getting a lot of attention at the moment), RJ Maryland, and Messiah Swinson.
Green Bay could have four tight ends on this roster to start the season. I don’t know if those top four are currently on this roster.
Finally, Offensive Line

The Packers will likely have ten offensive linemen on the 53-man roster. Jordan Morgan, Aaron Banks, Sean Rhyan, Anthony Belton, and Zach Tom are likely the starting five. That leaves five open spots for the rest of the linemen. Darian Kennard and Jager Burton are very likely to make this team. Burton has already been playing some with the starting offensive line due to some injuries and has been talked highly about already. Kennard’s versatility and experience with this team is too good to let go.
Jacob Monk, Karsen Barnhart, Dylan Barrett, Dillon Wade, John Williams, Brant Banks, Dalton Cooper, Josh Gesky, Travis Glover, and Donovan Jennings will be battling it out for those last spots on this team. Dalton Cooper is another guy to watch out for as we start into training camp.
Most Interesting Camp Battle
For the offensive side of the ball, for me, the most interesting camp battles is what happens with the tight end room and with the running backs. These aren’t going to be just competing with each other but also with other running backs and tight ends on other teams. Tucker Kraft and MarShawn Lloyd are really the only two out of the two position groups that I feel are locks to make this team (Jacob’s legal issues give me some pause on him). And, don’t forget, both Kraft and Lloyd are coming back from injuries. Chris Brooks might be a lock too but still!
I can see Luke Musgrave being traded if there is a market for him, and everyone else could be straight up cut candidates if they don’t perform in camp. The tight end and running back rooms could look quite a bit different come the start of the regular season.
These are the reasons why I believe these two position groups are the most interesting camp battles to watch for!
But, I could be wrong!
Regardless,
Go Pack Go!
