While everyone else is focusing on the NFL Combine, I will discuss available Free Agents that may be a good fit for the Packers. One of the most prized Free Agents (Obviously) for the Packers has been signed to a new contract. Packer’s PK Mason Crosby, coming off a fantastic season, has signed a 3 year $12.9M contract. Mason’s signing was well earned and deserved, after an extremely accurate and successful season, 91.7% FGs made, 97.6% PAT made. A current teammate of Crosby, RT Brian Bulaga, fresh off a statistically good year, might also have a chance at being offered a contract extension. At 31 years old, Bulaga may command a 3 year $10M contract. We should soon learn if those figures would be too rich for the Packers. I don’t forsee any other high profile Packer Free Agents resigning with the Packers, unless it’s TE Marcedes Lewis.

I have a few favorite Free Agents that I’d like to see in Green Bay. The Packer’s have been looking for a suitable quarterback to back up Aaron Rodgers. Titan’s Marcus Mariota would provide a valuable veteran whom the Packer’s could rely on should anything befall Rodgers. There are several teams who would and could easily outbid the Packers (Bears, Vikings, Buccaneers, Browns) for Mariota’s services.

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson would be a nice complement to WR Davante Adams, but would also come at a projected cost of $12M/year. This would cut deep into the Packers CAP and would restrict any further signings. The NFL Draft has several potential starters at the WR position, the Packers will most likely choose this route.

At the Interior Defensive Line, I would like to see the Packers spend money on a veteran presence to partner with DT Kenny Clark. The most likely fit may be recent cut casualty of the Detroit Lions DT Damon “Snacks” Harrison. “Snacks” had a statistically off season in 2019, which may make him affordable. If Harrison could regain his previous 2016 All-Pro form, he could immediately bolster the Pack’s run defense.

Another position of need for the Packers defense is Inside Line Backer. If Blake Martinez doesn’t return to the Packers, which is highly likely, there could be two vacancies in the middle. Current Packer’s ILB Oren Burkes appears to not be the answer, unless he takes a huge leap this off season. Possibly Chicago Bears ILB Nick Kwiatkoski could be a Packer’s target to step into the middle and be paired with a draft pick to solidify the middle.

On the Offensive side of the ball, along the line, Philadelphia Eagles Halapoulavaati Vaitai, could step in at RT if Bulaga is allowed to walk. At 26 years old he would provide a long term solution as Bulaga’s replacement. Vaitai is a solid blocker at 6’6,” 320 lbs., and could open huge holes for Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams.

Basically WR, ILB, DL, OL and possibly a back up QB could be on the Packer’s Free Agent radar. My guess is one Free Agent at a position of need and the remainder will be filled through the draft. What an exciting time to be a football fan and a Packer’s fan!

As Always, Go Pack Go!
