One of the few bright spots in the Packers 24-25 loss to the Falcons were the Packers Rookie Wide Receivers.

Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks each stepped up their game with Christian Watson out for the second straight week in a row with a hamstring injury.

First touchdowns for Packers Rookie Wide Receivers

Both Reed and Wicks caught their first touchdown passes in the NFL in the loss to Atlanta.

Reed was the first to reach that milestone.

He caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love in the second quarter for the Packers first touchdown of the day

That gave the Packers a 10-3 lead over the Falcons.

Wicks caught the next touchdown pass from Love in the 3rd quarter.

After being held without a reception last week, Wicks caught a 32-yard touchdown pass.

That gave the Packers a 17-9 lead.

Reed caught the last touchdown for the Packers, a 9-yard pass from Love to give the Packers a 24-12 lead.

The Packer Rookie Wide Receivers stepped up. Jayden Reed scored his first 2 touchdowns in the NFL

Reed finished the game with 4 catches for 37 yards.

Wicks finished with 2 receptions for 40 yards.

What they have shown

Both Reed and Wicks have shown the ability to adapt to the offense.

Both have also shown the ability get yards after the catch or as the great John Madden called it YAC.

In the offense the Packers run, that is important.

It has always been important.

If you look in the past with former wide receivers like Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson and even Donald Driver.

All have shown the ability to get yards after the catch.

Conclusion

Through two games we’ve seen both Reed and Wicks get their share of targets.

What we’ve seen from Love is that he is willing to spread the ball around to his wide receivers.

Love doesn’t care if you’re a veteran or a rookie, if you are open, he will get the ball to you.

Although the Packers lost to the Falcons this is a learning experience for not only the team but for the receivers as well.

The more experience the rookie wide receivers are going to get with Love, the more dangerous they will be.

Keep in mind Love was without his top Wide Receiver and his top Running Back.

Love still managed to pass for 3 touchdowns.

With this offense at full strength, it can do some damage.

With the development of the rookie Wide Receivers along with the development of Tight End Luke Musgrave, the future of the Packers Receivers looks pretty bright.
