The battle for the Backup Quarterback spot is a question mark heading into the preseason finale.

Earlier this year, I talked about Michael Pratt and how he might have a bigger upside than incumbent Sean Clifford.

But after the Packers loss 27-2 against Denver Sunday, it seems like both are struggling.

Stuggles for Clifford

For Sean Clifford, it has been a less than impressive training camp for him.

Even with Clifford taking the first team reps, with Love holding out, he struggled.

Throughout training camp he has struggled with turnovers.

It had gotten to a point where last week, Pratt was taking reps with the #2 offense during the final 2 periods of the day.

Earlier in the day, once again Clifford threw two interceptions.

The next day though Clifford was back running the #2 offense.

Clifford though had a good performance in the preseason opener.

Clifford was 10-of-19 passing for 111 yards with no touchdowns.

But against the Broncos, Cliffords turnover woes continued with an interception near the end of the first half.

Clifford also struggled against the Broncos defense and didn’t put up any points.

He finished the night 6-10 and no touchdowns.

He’ll need a good performance against the Ravens in the pre-season finale, if he wants to retain his role as back-up QB.

Pratts Performance

Michael Pratt, like any rookie slowly worked his way into the Packers 3rd team.

But while Cliffords performances have been inconsistent, Pratts performances have been consistent.

That was until Sundays game against the Broncos.

Packers QB coach Tom Clements said that Pratt is still learning and the game hasn’t slowed down for him quite yet.

Clements said “At some point after you do it a number of times, the game slows down for you and you kind of see things in slow motion.”

Clements continued to say that “I don’t think he’s quite there yet but he’s a hard worker, he studies hard and he did some good things out there.”

Pratt did have a strong showing in the pre-season opener.

He entered the game in the third quarter and was 5-of-7 for 46 yards.

But then he faltered against the Broncos.

Pratt was 10-16 for 52 yards and no touchdowns.

Conclusion

After both Quarterbacks performances, it is hard to say if ether will stay on the team.

The situation is very reminiscent of the 2013 season when the Packers proceeded to release all but one QB (Aaron Rodgers) and signed 2 free agents to back up Rodgers.

The Packers must find an answer soon to see if ether one of these QB can be the Backup Quarterback.

Both will have one last chance to prove to the coaching staff and front office they are capable of taking over the reigns if Love were to get hurt.
