The Packers helped their secondary on day one of the NFL Free Agency period signing Nate Hobbs last week.

Hobbs signed a 4 year, 48 million dollar contract with the Packers.

The former Raider was originally drafted in the 5th round of the 2021 draft and played his college football at Illinois.

So for Hobbs, it won’t take too much time to get adjusted to the midwest.

Hobbs will have a chance though to be one of the top corners for the Packers in 2025.

How Nate Hobbs can help the Packers

With the question mark over whether or not Jaire Alexander will remain in Green Bay or not the Packers needed some depth at Cornerback.

While Hobbs wasn’t a big name on the list of Free Agents this year, he can certainly help the Packers.

Over his four seasons with the Raiders, Hobbs started 38 games and had 281 tackles with 3 interceptions.

He also had 19 pass break-ups.

So, the numbers are there, and this is with his playing most of the time in the slot.

But Hobbs can play ether the slot corner or out on the boundary, giving the Packers versatility.

With Hobbs, fellow former Raider Keisean Nixon and saftey Javon Bullard, the Packers now have multiple players would can cover in the secondary.

Making an impression

Right away during his rookie season Hobbs was able to make an impact.

He had a good preseason and got the job as the third corner on the Raiders.

Hobbs wound up playing in 16 games his rookie season with 9 starts.

This was the same Las Vegas Raiders team that Rich Bisaccia became an interim head coach for back in 2021.

Hobbs became close with the current Packers Special Team coach during his only season with him.

He also said that Bisaccia was a factor in him deciding to sign with the Packers.

Playing style

Hobbs has the size and the strength of a typical NFL Cornerback.

But his style of physical play will help the Packers secondary.

Hobbs is also very good at being physical in the run game as well.

Combined with how he reads and reacts with the screen game Hobbs can be a disruptor on defense.

Conclusion

Nate Hobbs brings physicality and experience to the Packers secondary.

He will have fun playing in Jeff Hafley’s defense.

Look for him to compete for the second or third corner spot.

It will depend though on whether or not Jaire Alexander will come back to the Packers.

If Alexander doesn’t come back, Hobbs might have a chance at taking the top corner position.

But fans should be excited to see what Hobbs can bring to an already confident Packers secondary.
