Mini camp is a time when optimism reigns across all 32 NFL teams. Everyone thinks they have a chance to compete for something this year. The Green Bay Packers are no different as they look to contend in the NFC. For the team to get where they want to be in 2025 they will need some players to take the next step. One of the most important things a team needs is their own players to take the next step in development. Today we dive into some key Green Bay Packers breakout candidates.

Jordan Love – QB

Packers Jordan Love

The most important player on the Green Bay Packers breakout candidates list shouldn’t be a surprise. Jordan Love is the most important player to the 2025 Packers success. There has been a lot of talk about Jordan Love and his “regression” lately. Some Green Bay Packers fans think Jordan hasn’t done enough to prove he is the “guy”. In Green Bay the success of Loves predecessors have caused football enthusiasts to be blinded by reality. Jordan Love ranks #2 in Touchdown passes out of all NFL Quarterbacks in his first two seasons under the helm. Trailing only Joe Burrow, while also missing two games due to injury in 2024. Drafting Matthew Golden has raised the level of expectations on Jordan Love, and rightfully so. The team has invested in their Offensive Line to protect the Quarterback and have an arsenal of weapons at the skill positions. 2025 is the year for Jordan Love to show the entire world he belongs in the top tier of NFL Quarterbacks.

Lukas Van Ness – DE

Number 2 on the most important Green Bay Packers breakout candidates list is defensive end Lukas Van Ness. Since being drafted number 13 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft Van Ness has not lived up to expectations. A thumb injury derailed the start of his 2024 season and it never seemed like he felt comfortable. The Packers did not sign any pass rushers this offseason banking on internal improvement to help their pass rush. As raw as he was as a pass rusher coming out of Iowa, it’s certainly possible there’s development still to come. Especially now that the Packers have replaced defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich with the well-regarded DeMarcus Covington. Maybe Covington will be able to unlock something in Van Ness that’s been dormant to this point.

Devonte Wyatt – DT

Last on our list of most important Green Bay Packers breakout candidates is defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt. The Packers picked up Wyatts 5th year option, they clearly see him as an important piece to the roster in 2025. Drafted in the 1st round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Wyatt has showed the ability to get to the quarterback. If he can start finishing at the Quarterback, he can be a true game changer for the 2025 Green Bay Packers defense. During the 2024 season with Green Bay, he recorded 23 tackles, five sacks, and two fumble recoveries. Wyatt has a chance to be good in 2025 if he is able to stay on the field and stay healthy. If the Packers look to be playing deep into January, Wyatt needs to take his game to another level.
